I have a new sponsor, CLIF Bar. Anyone that knows me would agree that food is a pretty high priority for me. I have a small mantra when doing adventures, ‘eat a little often.’ Essentially it’s about efficiency, when you pause to look at a view or have a rest etc. have something to eat and drink. By doing this you are keeping the body fueled and hydrated and avoiding going into deficit.

It’s easy to forget to eat when you are in the moment in an incredible environment, sometimes you don’t even feel like eating or drinking for example, when it’s really cold. When you are on a long day and trying to get through a big section under a tight timeframe, being efficient with what you eat and how much becomes pretty important.

Over the past few months I’ve been trying out a range of different CLIF Bar products. I am lucky enough to have a range of their products to choose from, the iconic CLIF Bar, CLIF Shot Bloks and CLIF Shot Energy Gels. Across the board I find that these products are really easy to eat on the go, they are nutritious and highly effective as a source of energy.

On a standard Nelson ride I’d take a combination of these products. The CLIF Bar is substantial and awesome on a longer ride. The CLIF Nut Butter filled bars are small and compact but punch above their weight and are quick and easy to eat. I haven’t had much prior experience with the likes of The CLIF Shot Bloks but they are the perfect fit for my adventure mantra.

I have been eating the Shot Bloks on the way to a post work ride and can get quite a bit of mileage out of the rest of the blok during the ride. What I like about them is that the Bloks are in bite sized chunks, the packet fitting easily in your pocket and quite handy on a #packless ride. The CLIF Shot Energy Gel is fast acting and is really good to always have in your bag for the ‘just in case situation’ and great for big days out in the hills. It’s definitely advisable to keep up the fluid intake when taking these products. These three products are also a worthy addition to your first aid kit. Cheers CLIF Bar for fueling my adventures.
